Forestry mulching & land clearing in Lynchburg, VA

One machine cuts the brush, briars and small trees and grinds them into mulch where they stand. Nothing is pushed into a pile, nothing is burned, and nothing goes on a trailer — you get your ground back in a day or two instead of a month of cleanup.

How pricing works

Mulching is priced by the acre and by what is standing on it, and the two matter about equally. An acre of briars and saplings is a different day's work from an acre of eight-inch hardwood, and a creek, a slope or a gate too narrow for the machine changes it again.

That's why this one is always quoted on site rather than over the phone. We walk it with you, tell you what we'd take out and what we'd leave, and give you one firm number in writing. That's the number you pay, after the work is done and you've walked it again.

Common questions

How big a tree can you mulch?

Generally up to about 8 inches through. Bigger than that gets slow and hard on the machine, so we'll usually drop those and handle them separately — we'll tell you which is which at the estimate.

Does it take the stumps out?

No. Mulching cuts at or just above the ground and leaves the root plate in place, which is what keeps the soil from washing. If you need the stumps gone as well, that's a stump grinding job and we can price both at the same visit.

What happens to all the material?

It stays on your ground as a layer of mulch. It holds the soil, keeps the dust and mud down and rots back in over a season or two. Nothing is burned and nothing is hauled away, which is most of why it's quicker and tidier than clearing with a dozer.

Can I plant grass or run cattle on it afterwards?

Usually yes, once the mulch has settled. The ground isn't scraped bare the way it is with a dozer, so you keep your topsoil. For a seeded pasture you may want it mulched a bit finer — say so at the estimate and we'll make a second pass.

How much can you clear in a day?

It depends entirely on what's growing. Light brush and saplings can run close to an acre a day; heavy wooded ground with standing timber in it is a good deal slower. We'll give you a realistic number of days in writing with the price.

Do I need to call 811?

For mulching alone we're not digging, so a locate isn't usually required — but if there's any stump grinding in the same job, yes, and you should still tell us about anything buried shallow. Private lines like irrigation and invisible fence aren't covered by a utility locate at all.

Do you clear for building sites and driveways?

Yes — fence lines, trails, driveways, building pads, pasture edges and food plots are most of what this machine does. Tell us what the ground is for and we'll clear it to suit.
